TANGALLE BEACH | TANGALLE BEACH SRI LANKA
Tranquility and Serenity on a Beach
The endless strips of soft white sands glistening in the evening sun with the warm Indian Ocean lapping at your feet, is truly a dream, which can only made to be true at a tropical paradise like Sri Lanka.
Tangalle beach, situated at the far south-eastern side of the island offers this dream-like experience with many other elements that add to this remarkable scenery, where the evening sun turns the sea water into liquid gold, while the gentle sea breeze sways the coconut palm trees in a never-ending dance.
Tangalle beach consists of wide, open strips of land that run along the milky waves which break upon meeting the white sand, as well as from bays with calming waters to dip in and wash away all the worries and stresses of the day.
Although Tangalle beach is one of the most picturesque beaches in the island of Sri Lanka, it does not attract a large crowd, probably because it is the farthest beach in the southern region, hence, all the bays, beaches and tide pools are perfect for a little rest and relaxation, while being away from the crowds and noise.
The best part is, a freshly hatched sea turtle may or may not walk by the evening sun bathers because this part of the country is famous as a turtle nesting site. Tangalle beach is the perfect location for a quite holiday with so many local cafes and restaurants serving fresh-out-of-the-sea sea cuisines, as it is a famous fishing village.
After suffering greatly from the tsunami in 2004, Tangalle is slowly raising its head to be one of the most spectacular coastal towns in Sri Lanka.
Although the waters at the Tangalle beach is deep-turquoise and clear, swimming is said to be a bit dangerous due to the strong waves and the occasional current.
However, the small Tangalle bay with a sheltering reef to break the rough tides, is truly a place to get a natural jacuzzi experience.
Mulkirigala Rock Temple is a site for the sore eyes, dangling on top of a rock with caves and paintings which date back to the 18 th century. It is truly worth a visit for those who love to explore the colours of Sri Lanka and the 500-step climb on the rock does not disappoint.
Rekawa beach is a 20 minutes’ drive away from the Tangalle town, which is a famous location for turtle hatching during the nights. The Harbor road, Medaketiya beach and the Silent beach are also experiences not to be missed during a visit to the beautiful coastal town of Tangalle..
