In the evening hours we can arrange some leisurely activities, or you can just go site seeing in the city, so that you can take in a bit of the ‘Colombo vibe’ before the start of your journey.
Early on the second day of the tour, we take you to the cultural capital of the island, Kandy, where you will be accommodated in a dainty location for the night. On the way, you can see the world-famous elephant orphanage at Pinnawala. Visits to the ancient palace and to the Royal Botanical Garden and/or the cultural show will surely take your breath away with the richness of the Sri Lankan heritage.
Dambulla and Sigiriya are in the pretty close vicinity to Kandy, so on the third day, we have arranged a day tour to Dambulla Rock Temple and the ancient fortress of Sigiriya. The rock ceiling of the Temple cave at Dambulla is covered with colourful paintings, with some of them over 2000 years old. After visiting the rock Temple, you can climb the ancient Sigiriya Fortress which was built in 5th century A.D. Its water gardens still function as well as the earliest surviving Sri Lankan pictorial art can also be seen.
On the 4th day of the tour, you will be taking one of the most scenic train rides in the world to Ella, where you will be located in a jungle inn surrounded by the natural greenery of the hill country. Ella is framed by the towering Ella rock, which is a famous hiking destination in the entire country and it overlooks the spectacle of the wondrous Ella Gap, being able to surpass all other locations in the country with its sheer scenic beauty. The famous Ravana falls is only a few kilometers away as well as memorable walks along railways.
After spending a spectacular day at Ella, off we go the dry zone of Sri Lanka, to observe the diverse wildlife among the shrubs and bushes. You will be accommodated in a safari lodge close to Udawalawe National Park, which holds the highest population of wild elephants in Sri Lanka. After a safari in the park, we are to take you to the Elephant Transit Home at Udawalawe, where you can see orphaned baby elephants being nursed and rehabilitated. The coastal towns in the south of Sri Lanka are famous for the bustling activities as well as the colourful, active night life.
Mirissa, situated in the southern part of Sri Lanka, is world famous for Dolphin and whale watching.
